How do we improve Spirit Day participation?

There is a great problem with WHS students participation in Spirit Week to show their school pride for the upcoming football game this Friday night vs Daniel Hand. 
    Everyday has a different way for students to show their school spirit. On Monday was wear your favorite sports team day. On Tuesday, groups of students wore the same outfits. Then on Wednesday, students wore their respective class color day.  And on Thursday, students participated in Hawaiian day. Finally, on Friday was wear your school apparel.
    Even with all these fun days for students to dress up on, barely any students actually participate in this week. 
“ I don’t think the students participate, but this is spirit week, just because we do something, doesn’t mean it’s spirit,“ said Mr. Scopetto, a high school PE teacher and one of our student council organizers. . 
Could this mean students don’t participate in spirit week anymore because they don’t think the event is fun? 
“While some of the days are great, like school apparel day and twin day, I think the days should be more abstract in a way that employs creativity. Wearing a blue shirt for [wear your class color] day is not creative at all because I would wear a blue shirt any day of the week.” said Wethersfield High School student Jake Whitaker. 

The students would like to participate more in Spirit Week, if it were more like a competition and allow for them to be more creative. 

However, Student Council has stated that they’ve tried to do many different fun activities to motivate the students to participate more, but none of them seem to work.
