by Max Gentino (16) Wethersfield baseball is on a mission this year. Now fighting in Class L for a try at the state championship, Wethersfield has some new opponents ahead of them . In a sit down conversation with the captain, Brian Vieira, I had a chance to get some inside details on the team. Brian and most of the team have been playing in Wethersfield since T-Ball and have been falling in love with the sport to this day. He said, “It's almost surreal...a lot of the friends I've played with in little league have been with me through it all the way to senior year of high school. It's heartwarming and just an overall great feeling.” The team this year has tons of chemistry together that can really help them play good together and make good decisions. Last year they fell short of the amount of pitchers they wanted on the team. Brian explained “It was a great learning experience for me. It was my first time pitching and I had to step up a lot so we could have a good year.” Since then, the Eagles have lost even more pitchers and are only down to 5 seniors on the team. Junior, Colin Grotke was a big pitching tool for this year but has since thrown his arm out for most of the season. Coach Bagdasarian has been searching for answers and may have to result into pitching infielders and outfielders if needed. Jimmy Sullivan is only a sophomore and is already considered as a power hitter for varsity. With his long arms he can really get a hold of the ball. He’s also got a good shot at being a great pitcher for the team. The juniors and underclassmen have a good outlook on their future years due to the good amount of kids they have trying out. Tryouts are taking place this week until Wednesday of next week. Here’s a link to the teams schedule.
