by Megan Humphrey (2016) You might see them sprinting down the street or doing laps around the track. At the high school, they’re known as the Girls Cross Country team. Coach Stephen Carr and his team have high hopes for this season. The Wethersfield Girls Cross Country team is doing big things this year. They run six days a week, whether it be at meets or practice in order to train for their Conference meet at the end of the season. The team ended their regular season undefeated. They had an exciting win against Bristol Central on October 6 and it was a huge confidence booster for each of the runners. Senior Maddie Giolito said, “We want to be the first girl’s Cross Country team to win our conference.” That goal wasn’t too far out of reach. The team won their conference by a narrow two points and Coach Carr couldn’t have been more proud. The Cross Country girls were full of energy this year. For this year’s pep rally, the entire team dressed up in 80’s workout gear. Not only was it fun to see, it was a great way to show school spirit. This year’s team is full of enthusiasm and Giolito even described them as, “ Fast, fresh, and fierce!” All that practicing payed off and Wethersfield High School took home their first Girls Cross Country CCC title. Now, onto States.
