By Xzavian Gomez '26 The popular game “NBA 2K26” was released Sept. 5, 2025, but for some odd reason, many people had opinions that most of us were not expecting. We’ve all heard the complaints: the game "fell off," "it’s not the same anymore," or the movement is different and the "vibes" are gone. These are prime examples of people who simply can’t adjust to change. The “2K” franchise never fell off. With new settings, professional mechanics and better graphics, “2K26” is 100% worth buying. The first reason to put this game in your cart is the sheer depth of new features. We’re talking a new park, fresh animations and expanded customization. You can literally buy the same designer clothes you own in real life and have your player dunking on people’s heads in style. You can even choose specific sound effects for when you drain a 3-pointer. People constantly claim they want to go back to “2K20,” but that game didn't have half the technology or AI integration we see today.
The visual leap is the second reason this title is a must-own. The graphics are generational; it’s almost as if you can see Jalen Brown’s hairline enhancements staining Amen Thompson’s white jersey. You can see the sweat dripping down Luka Doncic’s forehead as he steps back for three. It makes zero sense to complain about these upgrades. Why would you want to play a game that looks like it’s running off a toaster when you could have this? Finally, the new professional mechanics are an absolute game-changer. You can perform a hesi-crossover step-back that looks exactly like it does in the NBA. The game is evolving faster than we realize. If you keep up with the series every year, you get to watch the engine grow while you sharpen your own skills. What is truly confusing, however, is the crowd that buys “Zens” (cheating devices) and then complains the game is garbage. If you have to cheat to win, you’re the one who is "trash," not the game. In conclusion, “2K26” is definitely worth buying today. It didn't fall off; it leveled up. Between the professional mechanics and the immersive graphics, the only thing holding the game back is the players who refuse to learn the new moves.
